Magnojez interview: "We need to show our A-game"

BetBoom Team has been arguably the most surprising success story of this Major so far.

BetBoom were already an underdog. Then due to visa issues, they couldn’t roster the team they bootcamped with. FL4MUS came in last minute for this event, and yet still here they are in the playoffs.

A big part of their success at the IEM Cologne Major has come from Magnojez performing like a super star. That’s why when we had an opportunity to speak to him at media day we discussed his performances, how Boombl4 leads the team, and what it’ll take to beat Aurora.

First of all, congratulations on making the playoffs, it's a huge achievement for you guys. Obviously, there are no easy games at the Major, but you guys have to be happy with the route you guys have in the playoffs?

Yeah, obviously. I think we didn't have any expectations at all at this tournament, we don't even have our line-up, so we're just happy to go through the first stage, second stage. We're just happy to be here, to be honest.

I'm curious, how much does Boombl4 do for you guys as a team? Does he lead your anti-stratting, does he micro a lot? I'm curious how he leads you guys.

I don't want to tell a lot of insights, but overall, Fierce, Boombl4, and a bit me, we are doing a lot of work in terms of macro things, like tactics, anti-stratting, and other stuff. Boombl4 is a great leader in my opinion, obviously one of the best captains of all time. But the most work, like tactics for the team, is done by Fierce.

Flashback one year ago, in America at the Major. You guys went out in stage two and you had a 0.8ish rating on CT. Now we're here, and you have a 1.2 rating on CT. What's happened in that year to make you so much stronger on that side? Is it just the game changing or did you work on something?

I would say it's like everything because our coach changed, we have a lot of structure, my position's a bit swapped as well. I become, obviously, a stronger player than I was one year ago, so I think it's all like a complex.

Has it, with the new economy change stuff, been kind of harder for you to play your game on T-side? Because that's something that has not necessarily become bad, but has become a little slower. Is it harder now to be able to do what you did?

I don't think so, it's like harder, it depends on how you're playing on T-side, like how good or bad you are. It's good for CT, I think it's good that you're not doing a lot of eco's. Overall, I think it's not that much hard(er) to come back on T, it depends on your mental and like tactics and other stuff.

You guys will be playing against Aurora on Thursday. What do we have to see from you guys, maybe that we haven't seen yet, to be able to beat them?

Obviously, we will do something new. We are doing some new things every game. But I would say the main thing that we need to do is just play our game, because we have some struggles versus good opponents, especially in arenas. I hope we're going to handle it and win. We need to show our A-game, and we will win.
