League of Legends Classic confirmed: Everything we know about the throw-back game mode

It’s official: League of Legends is receiving a ‘classic’ mode taking players back to the golden age of the game with its pointy polygons, simpler mechanics, and much smaller champion pool.
First rumored a few weeks ago, Riot Games confirmed the existence of League of Legends Classic late on Friday evening (June 26), in a social post and video. The developer also confirmed that more information would be available during the MSI finals on July 11, when a full reveal would be made
Luckily, we don't have to wait that long for more info, as Riot Games managed t put much of the details on the PBE, meaning data miners were quickly able to find out what exactly we’re in store for with League of Legends Classic. Here’s what we know
League of Legends Classic is real and arriving later this year
League of Legends Classic is reportedly set to release some time in Season 3 of the current year. With 60 classic heroes playable, the old runes and masteries system back in place, the original models and maps circa Season 3 (Season 3, 2012 that is), this truly is a retro LoL experience.
Beyond this, there will be a separate account leveling system (1-30 just like the good-old-days), a new store with its own IP currency to unlock old champions and runes, and a mini battle pass.
Unconfirmed details include the potential for ranked to be included and co-op vs AI modes as well.
Overall, this is a huge nostalgia trip for old-school LoL players (ourselves included). While some have suggested this mode will be dead on arrival, we’re much more confident. After all, the same criticisms were levied at WoW Classic, and that remains one of the most popular modes of World of Warcraft.
