No surprise here; MOUZ, Falcons, Tundra are leaders of the pack at BLAST Slam V so far
Two days of competition—28 matches—have already been played in the BLAST Slam V group stage. Each of the 12 teams has now completed either four or five series, and the front-runners are already beginning to emerge. And with no surprises at the top.
The leaders of the pack at BLAST Slam V
Leading the charge is MOUZ. The European team is hot off of their their blazing-hot run at PGL Wallachia Season 6 and have clearly entered BLAST Slam V as one of the most dangerous threats to Tundra’s reign. They sit with a 4:1 record having lost a series to Team Yandex.
Tied with them are Falcons, the reigning International champions. Their only stumble was in the opening series against Yakult Brothers, where they looked noticeably sluggish after the first 15 minutes and dropped every fight from that point on. Since then, it seems they’ve had their breakfast of champions. They’re looking sharp, stable, and fully online.
Just behind them sit Tundra Esports, undefeated with a 4–0 record. It’s hardly unexpected from the squad that has devoured nearly every BLAST title available this year, claiming Slam II in February, Slam III in May, and Slam IV earlier this month.
Only two teams will secure a spot in the playoffs.
The danger zone
A pair of teams find themselves at the bottom of the standings—both somewhat surprisingly.
HEROIC sit in last place with an 0–4 record, still searching for their first win of the event. Their remaining opponents don’t make the climb any easier: Tundra, OG—who are outperforming expectations—and Yakult Brothers, who have shown they’re more than capable of delivering upsets.
Just above them is Xtreme Gaming. The Chinese squad hasn’t found their footing this season, finishing a disappointing 9–11th at PGL Wallachia Season 6 and still struggling to regain form.
But it isn’t over yet. These teams need to string together several wins today and tomorrow to have any hope of squeezing into the Play-In stage, but at the worst, they still have a shot in the Last Chance Playoff on Sunday, November 30th.
Both teams will be kicking off the action today, November 27th at 15:00 CET. HEROIC will need to best Tundra while Xtreme Gaming will need to outplay Natus Vincere.
