Aui_2000 retires, leaving behind an unforgettable Dota 2 legacy

As The International 2026 has just come to a magnificent conclusion, we are expecting an intense roster shuffle period. While it is already in full swing with the likes of Vici Gaming and Virtus.pro disbanding their rosters, some announcements hit a bit harder. One such revelation came on August 23rd, as famed player and coach, Kurtis “Aui_2000” Ling seemingly stated that he was hanging up the proverbial gloves for professional Dota 2.

In an interview with Esports.ru, Kurtis made a few statements that were very telling of his future in the game.

Aui_2000 calls it quits

As one of the most famous players in Dota 2, Aui_2000’s career has spanned over a decade within the game. From winning TI back in 2015 with Evil Geniuses, to coaching some of the best players and teams as they went on to lift the Aegis of Champions, Kurtis’ career is one that will never be forgotten. As a coach, he helped both Team Falcons and Tundra Esports to their famous victories, as a player, he has been through it all, and as a personality in the Dota 2 scene, he is unforgettable.

Although the recently concluded TI did not see Kurtis and Falcons defend their title, the coach gave an interview with Esports.ru which pointed towards his exit from the game. When asked about the future of the team, he responded with,

I don’t even know what will happen next for the players. I’m not going to continue my career in Dota 2, so I’m not particularly involved in all of this.”

Coupled with a post made by Aui_2000 on August 24th via his X account, he has decided that his time with Dota 2 has come to an end.

Replies on the post come from other legends within the scene such as Jonathan “Loda” Berg and Alan "Nahaz" Bester, wishing him well and praising him.

While it is sad to see the mastermind and genius that is Aui_2000 depart from the scene, he leaves behind a legacy for many to follow and aspire to.
