Spinx Interview: "It's not an easy schedule”

MOUZ will be largely happy about their start of the season.
The German organisation won a trophy at their first time of asking with new rifler PR on their roster, and EWC might not have been a win, but many “stronger” names fell before them. With that in mind, they’ll be coming into BLAST Porto with hopes to keep their form up. Possibly make the most of a time where the best teams have some flaws.
So, when we spoke to Spinx at media day today, we made sure to ask him about their goals, what the adaptation’s been like, where they want to improve, and more.
Here’s what he said:
How are you feeling coming into this event? How are you doing?
I'm doing good, feeling good. We've been at the Esports World Cup now for almost two weeks, so it's not always easy coming to a tournament after some time, but it's fine. Everyone here is almost the same, so it's okay. Feeling good.
Obviously with the way the schedule has been, you guys going from BLAST Bounty and then to EWC and then now straight to here, have you had any time to really sit down and decompress yet?
A bit. Not too much. We had some time off, and of course we also had some practice days, because another event is around the corner. It's not an easy schedule. I think a lot of people in the community are talking about it right now, but it's not an easy schedule. All the top teams are in the same one, so let's see what we will get, and that's it.
Speaking of not an easy schedule, your schedule for this tournament is pretty rough. You have an opening game against 9z, who are difficult. You've got Vitality in your group. How do you feel about the way the group stage has been drawn for you?
I don't mind it much. I like to play... the better the teams you play, the more improvement you can make, either if you win or lose the game. I think we're in a spot where we need to make small improvements, so it's a good test for us after EWC. And yeah, 9z, Vitality, I would enjoy the game. I would like to see JL on the server again, maybe with a different jersey now, but yeah, it's always a pleasure.

This event is really interesting, because you made a change adding PR and then immediately won a tournament, and then had to come back down to earth. How is that as an adjustment, having to go, "Okay, everything went perfect, now we have to sit back and analyze"? How do you get back down to earth and go, "Okay, this is now what we need to work on"?
I think it happens pretty often in the CS scene, to be honest. So many times someone is playing with a stand-in, or some team makes a roster change and they win the first event they are playing, you know? It happened a couple of times in Counter-Strike. You win the first event, maybe you lose the second one. You see more stuff you need to improve on, and you work on it.
You're a new team, you have stuff you need to work on, of course. No one expected everyone to join the server and it will be perfect. I'm happy we managed to grab a win pretty fast, so we can see ourselves that we can do it, and get some extra boost, extra motivation, extra energy boost and stuff like this.
So yeah, we didn't win EWC. It's fine. We didn't expect to come into this season and just win six tournaments in a row. One step at a time. We see some stuff we need to improve on, and that's what we are working on right now.
I was going to ask this later, but since you mentioned it: did you have any expectations coming into the season, any goals that you set out to achieve? Or was it more take it one event at a time? Because I can imagine that is also a valid approach.
We didn't have a specific goal as a team. For me, if you ask me personally, I would like to play in a big arena and win in a big arena. I think it's been a while. It happened this time in PGL, 2025. The arena was pretty good, it was really nice. But to have some bigger event, with all the top teams and the big arena, and to win it, that's what I personally would be looking forward to. And the team goal, I think right now, is just one event at a time. Make the improvements we need to make, show some better Counter-Strike, and yeah, that's it.
Out of curiosity, which events that we have on the schedule this year do you want to win the most? Probably the Major, but still.
Of course, the Major is the easy answer, but I just want to have a big arena. I don't care the event even, just to have a big arena. Have a pretty good playoff teams, like have a lot of big dogs in the playoffs, and win the event. That's it.
It'd be beautiful. Just to go back a bit before I go off the rails, I wanted to go back to the change you made, because PR is playing a little bit of a star role, at least in some ways. He's doing a lot of fragging, or put in positions where he gets to make some plays. You play in some more passive spots, which means that you play off of the space your teammates create. You find the gaps that get opened up. How has adjusting to the way PR plays, versus some other people that you've played with in the past, been for your game and just as a team?
First of all, for PR, I think some maps he has more... like you say, some maps he has better roles. I think no one expected him to drop a 30 bomb on the B site on Mirage, you know? So I just want to clarify that some maps he has better ones, sometimes it's a bit less, which is fine.

For me, yeah, it's a bit more... it's definitely much more passive. I have the most passive roles, at least on T side, in the team. And yeah, sometimes you're dependent on your teammate. What is the space, and how is it going on the other side of the map. And sometimes it's also dependent on you. They create a good space, you need to take your opportunity. They are doing their job, you need to do also your job.
And yeah, just be a bit surprising. You can't just be passive all the time in these days. You need to be a bit surprising. Sometimes be super aggressive, sometimes be more passive than the other team would think you would be, and mix it up at all times.
Has anything changed for your game? Do you notice anything different with the space that you can now find, or is it just him doing the same roles but different?
I think in a team perspective, it's kind of similar. I think it's more like PR is taking his own way to do it. Of course, you want to involve the person on how to do it, like himself, how he likes to do it. Maybe some stuff he likes more, some stuff he is not as much a fan of. So this one is definitely a bit different. And I don't know, for me it's... I don't know. I didn't think about it.
Fair enough. I have to ask, and if it's not the case, then it isn't. My final question is about this event and last event. You made it to the playoffs still, didn't make it all the way. What would have to change compared to your performance at EWC for you to lift this trophy as well? What would you have to improve?
I think we need to be present in the game. It's kind of the cliché answer, but we need to play better Counter-Strike. Even though we won against GamerLegion, there are many rounds that are a bit too chaotic. We are not on the same plan and stuff like this. I think it's like the cliché answer: we need to have better comms at times, we need to play better at times. And I think the pieces are there. I think we also showed it at times. We just need to find the consistency to do it against all opponents, and at all times.
It's a cliché probably because it's true. Thank you so much for your time, and have a great rest of your day.
Yes. Thank you too.
