mezii interview: "We can't be losing to some USPs"

mezii was kind enough to speak to us despite Vitality's exit from the competition in Cologne.

Father time comes for us all, and Vitality appear to be no different.

Falcons, powered by karrigan, did what karrigan teams do and upset the favourites in a thriller. There is no shame in losing to possibly the greatest IGL to ever live, but Vitality will be feeling dejected regardless.

That’s why we were really grateful that mezii gave us some of his time after the loss to answer a few questions. Here’s what he had to say:

First of all, commiserations. What went wrong for you guys today?

At least on Dust 2, losing the 5v3 on CT-side in the middle of the half kind of messed with us a little bit. I think it's something we need to make sure we do better. Then, T-side we lose two force buys I think it was, or even like a really low buy.

Yeah, I mean, when it's a close game like this we can't afford to lose these type of rounds. It's a disappointing way to lose, because it was really bad rounds to lose in CS at the moment. We can't be losing to some USPs or other really low buys.

That's kind of what happened on Dust2 at least.

Something that XTQZZZ talked about on media day is that you guys were trying to figure out what was going wrong with being scared, or if it was maybe pressure. Did you feel any of that on the server today?

No, nothing out of the ordinary in terms of pressure. I think it's the Major, it's Cologne, it's a huge crowd, and it's a nice stage.

There's always going to be pressure especially when you put on this jersey for Vitality. I mean yeah, it's one of those things where the pressure is always there. But I think it's something for us that we needed to cope with, and I don't think that's what made us play that bad today. I think it was more to do with ourselves as individuals to make sure we kind of bring that extra bit you know.

It's one of those things you know.

I wanted to ask about Dust2, it seems almost weird to let what seems to be one of your better maps come through. But it's been kind of a struggle recently. Do you guys know what's been going on on Dust2, or is it something you'll have found out in the aftermath when you look at the demos?

I mean, I think of course we'll definitely learn a lot from looking at the demos.

I think our CT-side is something we need to make sure we improve on. I think it was our strong point before, and last couple games we have definitely let ourselves down a little bit on our CT-sides and not been as strong, as dynamic as we usually are. And that's really important to bring the next time we play Dust2. . Yeah, like you say, it was our best map. It's still one of our strongest maps, and we know we'll find the answers. It's just about implementing them now, reviewing them, and coming back after the break with a better outlook.
