Legacy win Fissure Playground 3 as they dismantle G2 in the final

Something in the air in China must be turning Legacy into the best team in the world.

arT’s men have just won their third event in the region, adding Fissure Playground 3 to their two CAC trophies. The list of names they’ve beaten is no joke either, with FURIA, MIBR, and G2 forming their most recent victim list. Even though FURIA are technically ranked higher, this G2 victory might be their most impressive win yet.

Legacy three, G2 zero

G2 didn’t manage a single map.

Despite us being positive about their recent changes, G2 completely failed to show us anything in this final. Their Ancient CT-side foreshadowed their issues. They managed to win seven rounds, but SIX of them were retakes. That’s an outrageous way to play a CT-side, even if it’s successful.

It could’ve been forgiven if they at least won the map, but they were a declawed cat on T-side. All threats and noise, no damage, and kind of sad to see.

Their offense won only two rounds: a pistol round they failed to convert and a successful bomb plant, one of only two times they managed to plant. While Legacy kept the pressure up throughout, G2 fell flat trying to find weaknesses that n1ssim and latto didn’t give up.

The final scoreline of 13-9 flatters G2; it gives the impression this was a real game, when in reality Legacy were in the driver's seat, and G2 managed to hold onto the grab handle through corners until they eventually flew out of the window.

That was until map two, where the score tells a similar story, but the game was quite different.

G2’s missed chance, and Legacy’s conversion

If the Samurai wanted to win this final, this would’ve been the moment to turn it.

On Mirage, the roles were reversed, as Legacy opened the game up with a dominant CT half. They built a convincing 9-3 lead and even won the pistol round on T-side, but they failed to convert it. After their force, G2 came alive as they slowly began building momentum. One round became three, then five. The lead dropped to 10-8 before Legacy finally recovered, managing to trade rounds one for one in the final five rounds, eventually ending 13-10.

Had G2 managed to play a decent T-side on Mirage, they could’ve closed it on CT, putting them tied 1:1 in the series and giving them a chance.

Instead, map three was just a formality.

Legacy looked like a team that knew it would win, while G2 looked like they had given up.

The first half was a comfortable and easy eight-round T-side for Legacy, and when the sides switched, G2 lost five in a row to end it. Maybe that’s fair as this series was effectively over, but it did continue the worrying trend of G2’s T-sides being frankly abysmal here. Across the three maps, G2 played 27 T-side rounds and won five of them.

But credit where it’s due to Legacy; they clearly prepared well for this series. latto, n1ssim, and try played great maps that put their “European star” counterparts to shame.

Now Legacy have to hope they can carry this form into a proper tier 1 event. They’re supercharged PARIVISION now, a true gatekeeper that can win an event like this.

Can they take the step PARIVISION couldn’t and become a true top-5 staple?
