FURIA and MOUZ make playoffs as G2 and FaZe go out last - IEM Beijing day two

IEM Beijing is throwing up banger after banger - and some pretty worrying results for some big teams.

FURIA pulled off a huge comeback from 3-9 down on map two to stay alive in the series and eventually come out on top, going straight through to playoffs in the process.

This was a long series with two overtimes and a 23-rounder, but FURIA eventually showed their class down the stretch to just about edge out NAVI, who surely will find their way to playoffs via another route.

There were so many moments, so many crazy rounds that it would take forever to cover each one, but molodoy's 1v3 in the final map proved to be a game-changer. He was excellent on the third map especially, but was solid throughout alongside the ever-brilliant KSCERATO.

w0nderful went blow-for-blow with the Kazakh AWPer, dropping 25 on Cache, but was let down by his team when it really mattered. He and iM pulled off a 2v5 in the opening round of the third map, and found back-to-back multikills to go from 8 to 10 for NAVI.

These teams were so evenly matched that there was just eight kills between the two teams in a series of over 500 kills combined. If you're going to re-watch any series from today, it should be this one.

Aurora stayed alive at the expense of G2 in a pulsating third map.

Wicadia's horrible day one was flipped on its head as he and woxic - who loves Dust 2 - dragged Aurora to a win in OT against G2 who notably had r1nkle not show up to the party.

r1nkle was poor on all three maps really - he picked up just eight kills even on the map G2 won, nine on the OT Dust 2 (as an AWPer, that's scandalous) and only 12 on his best map of the series. Wicadia ended the series with over double his kills, as did HeavyGod. This move has just not worked.

It's not all hunky-dory for Aurora who were inches from departure themselves, and XANTARES struggled once more in a big game. He was marginally better than r1nkle, but not by much.

Probably the round of the series came from Wicadia, whose crucial 1v3 on an eco crushed the G2 economy and changed the story of map three completely. It's so on brand for G2 to lose this sort of round, and you can point the finger all you want at r1nkle for getting picked off first, but losing a 3v1 in that situation is just unforgiveable.

But so, so G2.

FaZe fell 1-2 to Falcons in a series that really didn't seem right being an elimination game.

kyousuke clearly was angry to be in that position, as he dropped the hammer on FaZe with 22 kills in just 16 rounds on Ancient to wash FaZe away on their own pick. Between him, m0NESY and TeSeS, that map was a complete whitewash.

JBOEN hit back with a carry job of his own, and what a carry it was. He found multiple key multikills; a triple in the first gun round to turn a 2v4 into a 2v1, an opener and a closer in the final round of the game and a double including the round winning 1v1 to put FaZe on 7 in the first half.

It was all for naught, though, as Falcons came back with a vengeance on Mirage. NiKo just decided the game needed to end, and so took it upon himself to win Mirage pretty much single-handedly. Falcons won seven on the bounce at 6-7 down off the back of his ridiculous fragging, and FaZe were sent home early.

One step forward, 2-0 back for Liquid who were given the PARIVISION experience. FL1T and Jame were in Rio Major form, and Liquid were in, well, Liquid of two months ago form. It was a clean victory for PARIVISION, who head straight to playoffs. This team baffles us and always will.

MOUZ needed OT to get past BETBOOM on their own map pick, but did eventually pull off the 2-0. Spinx was his typical self, finding backstabs at the perfect moment time and time again - though torzsi was the one who eventually powered the win. MOUZ had some issues on the B bombsite on their defence, but were able to adjust and take the map eventually.

TYLOO stayed alive in front of the home crowd by pulling off the 2-0 on a free-falling 9z. We were so excited by this team. What on Earth happened? luchov has fallen off a cliff - he got demolished today.

There was yet more OT on the B stream as The MongolZ won a tense second map against HEROIC, and B8 knocked Legacy out.
