It's been a pretty good week for Australia in competitive sports; for StarLadder, less so.

Day one of the Budapest Major was stalled by a major technical issue that delayed games by hours and ruined the excitement of what was supposed to be a celebratory day in the Counter-Strike world - but fortunately the games brought us back to life.

The 2-0 teams

FlyQuest breezed into a 2-0 game with big wins over back-to-back Brazilian teams, ruining most people's shoo-in 3-0 pick, Legacy, in the process. Vexite went completely under-the-radar before the event, but he topped the scoreboard in both games (Legacy and Imperial) with a 1.77 and a 1.59 rating respectively.

We've seen flashes from Vexite especially domestically, but this is the first glimpse of him being excellent internationally and one to keep an eye on for the next stage - should FlyQuest convert.

They'll have to go through Fluxo, who barreled past two European teams into the 2-0 bracket - in fact, there are no European teams in it. Fluxo smashed GamerLegion and overran fnatic, with arT going 20-9 in something of a nostalgic flashback to a simpler time.

The other 2-0 game will be an NA vs NA affair, with NRG and M80 both making it through. We wrote about NRG before the Major and their strengths and flaws, but that was before their IGL dropped out and was replaced with their coach. Seemingly, that has made no difference; they beat NIP and FaZe.

Yes, that FaZe.

M80 went through Eastern Europe and came back with the scalps of B8 and PARIVISION, which are two big names to take down. They should beat NRG in a BO3.

Should.

Into the 1-1 bracket

Legacy hit back against Rare Atom to go 1-1, and joined other pre-stage favourites FaZe, who beat Lynn Vision to kick off the event. Both B8 and PARIVISION ended 1-1 after losses to M80 and wins against The Huns, and remarkably will now play each other.

fnatic's loss to Fluxo came after an opening win against RED Canids, who looked better than expected. They went on to beat GamerLegion, who have looked absolutely horrendous in the BO1s.

NIP recovered to beat Lynn Vision, moving themselves into the 1-1 bracket.

Tomorrow's games

We've covered the 2-0 games, but the 1-1 games are looking spicy. FaZe and NIP both have only beaten Lynn Vision, and now have to play against each other, meaning one of them will be one BO3 from elimination very soon.

Legacy and RED Canids make up the third 'regional derby' (PARIVISION vs B8 is counted here), with Legacy surely set to go 2-1 despite how solid RED Canids have looked. fnatic are up against Imperial.

In the 0-2 bracket, GL meet Rare Atom and Lynn Vision fight for survival against The Huns.
