BLAST Bounty Day 2 Recap: Falcons get their valour stolen by the Thieves

The whole 'karrigan at Majors' thing seems like it might be real.

We know, we know. Small sample size. One-off game. First of the season. Online. We don't care. The narrative demands it.

Falcons fell in an epic third map to a plucky and exciting 100 Thieves in a game that delivered on its expectations. We billed this as one of the more exciting games of the round and boy, was it. 100 Thieves earnt this win with a massive comeback on map three to complete the reverse sweep and give Gizmy a win over karrigan in his first game on 100T.

Now that's how you make an entrance.

Gizmy called a ten-round T side on Anubis to inch out Falcons and make 100T some moolah from the bounty system. Not only that, but it was he who executed the plans to perfection on Anubis and brought the win home. He was superb in the final map, with multiple game-changing rounds throughout the all-important second half.

He was responsible for half of their opening kills on the T side and racked up tons of damage to help soften players up for his teammates.

Admittedly, he had poiii to thank for dragging the team to a third map with a ridiculous second map, taking over Dust 2 against some of the best players in the world and posting over a kill per round en route to a 13-7 win.

All this came after Falcons coasted to a 1-0 lead and looked all set to ruin a fun game, too. 100T not only beat Falcons, they did it after getting smushed into pieces on the first map, and took it with a big comeback on the third map. That's resilience, right there.

We can't make any sweeping conclusions, but we will be watching VERY carefully from now on, 100 Thieves.

jcobbb and JBOEN both looked like future stars as FaZe cleaned up EYEBALLERS with ease.

Yes, yes, it's easy to caveat with the level of opposition and it being online, but JBOEN especially caught the eye with some magnificent work with the big green that must have brought a tear to JW's eye.

He looked sharp and decisive as he scythed through EYEBALLERS, while jcobbb was surprisingly reliable and consistent throughout the series to power this new-look, unrecognisable FaZe team to a comfortable victory. Having not been plugged in to the algorithm with JBOEN, we're so far pleasantly surprised with how impressive he looks on this team and can't wait to see him on LAN against better opposition.

Hopefully, jcobbb too can be reborn on this team and show us more of what he can actually do, rather than being the butt of everyone's jokes.

GamerLegion bombed out in the first round as they were dispatched by HOTU.

We don't want to read too much into it, as it's not only the first game after the break but also the Herculean task of defeating a Russian team online, but it's still a pretty frustrating result for a team who are looking to kick on this season.

On the bright side, FL4MUS looked the part and once he and REZ are working together this team will be very dangerous. We saw how quickly he changed BetBoom's fortunes, and we expect GamerLegion can start reaping the rewards pretty soon too.

HOTU are one to keep an eye on, and can be a real problem for any team especially online, but we don't think this result really changes our opinion of them. They're dangerous but not really going to win anything any time soon, but in this situation we would not want to play them.

Speaking of which, Nemiga gave G2 one hell of a scare as they went up in the series forcing G2 to pull off the reverse sweep.

They seemed to run out of gas on both of the last two maps, though, and eventually let G2 waltz away with the win that their quality demands. We will say, though, our early concerns around r1nkle do not seem totally unfounded, as he looked a little lost on both Anubis and Ancient.

We know the guy is talented but we're not sure on his application at the top level, and while again this is one game with heavy mitigating circumstances, a great showing would have done a lot to quell the noise surrounding this relatively unpopular move.

We did see something of a return to form for NertZ, though, and if G2 can have him firing on all cylinders they could have Smithzz AWPing and it wouldn't matter. Their rifle core is scary good, and even competence from their AWPer will be enough to go deep in events if NertZ and HeavyGod start firing.

Nemiga remain true to their anagrammatical selves; an enigma. We don't know quite what they are, how good they can be or what they're great at, but we're glad we don't have to play them to find it out. G2 avoid the banana skin.
