Nigma Galaxy reach playoffs stage at The International 2025
Six years in the making, Nigma Galaxy have finally done it. They are going to step onto The International 2025 stage for the playoffs stage.
Nigma secured their spot in the playoffs with a reverse sweep over Aurora Gaming in the elimination round. Despite having mixed results through the first five rounds in the group stage Swiss format, Aurora were still heavily favoured in the Nigma matchup. In the season leading up to TI, Aurora have constantly been placing top 6 at every tournament they played, while for Nigma, the season was pretty lacklustre. However, The International is best known for always delivering incredible storylines, and this year, one of those seems to be developing around Nigma Galaxy.
Nigma vs Aurora
Aurora started the elimination series strong. They ran a carry Doom that countered Nigma’s Alchemist carry and their entire tempo strategy overall. The teamfights were also quite hard for Nigma to take as they were playing into a Mars Arena -Shadow Fiend deadly combo. However, after shutting down Nigma in game one, Aurora went for a Marci carry with a mid lane Tinker in game two, and despite creating chaos through the early to mid game stage, they couldn’t close it fast enough. Nigma thrived in the late game scenario with Daniel "Ghost" Chan on Ursa. Nigma’s carry made the difference in the decider game as well. Ghost got to play Medusa, on which he took an early lead despite dying just four minutes into the game. Both Nigma’s sidelanes went nearly flawless, which put both their cores in the driving seat and eventually became too big and too tanky for Aurora to deal with.

With this loss, Aurora ended their TI 2025 just 13-16th in the standings, while Nigma Galaxy have secured themselves a top 8 finish. They will step onto the Barclays Arena stage next week on September 11 when they will be pitted against either Xtreme Gaming, the only undefeated team at TI so far, or against Tidebound, who placed second in the group stage. The seeding will be determined based on the results from the other two elimination series unfolding today, Team Liquid vs Tundra Esports and Team Spirit vs Team Falcons.
