Team Liquid defeats LYON to win LCS 2026 Summer and become NA’s number one seed

Team Liquid had defeated LYON to head to Worlds 2026 as NA's top seed.

Team Liquid has defeated LYON in the grand finals of the LCS 2026 Summer Playoffs, locking in the top seed for North America at the upcoming Worlds 2026 event held in the region.

The storied NA org defeated upstart LYON in convincing fashion on Oct. 4, after a hard-fought four-game series. Despite some controversy, mainly from a questionable pause in game two by LYON’s Kang "Saint" Seong-in, Team Liquid cleanly defeated their opponents to win their sixth LCS title.

Team Liquid defeats LYON 3-1 in LCS Summer finals

Ushered forward by a pair of MVP performances by Brandon "Josedeodo" Villegas, Team Liquid looked dominant in games one and two. However, the series’ second game gave rise to some small controversy as Saint, LYON’s mid laner, called for a pause after an errant Twisted Fate ult teleported him into the middle of the enemy team.

While the pause was called to investigate the cast, potentially flagging it as a bug, it was later confirmed that it was a legitimate mistake, caused by of all things the “Clamp cast target setting” which when smart casting an ability, locks it in close to a nearby enemy. This caused Saint to TP directly into Team Liquid.

The errant cast might not have entirely lost LYON the game, but it didn’t help, when at the 20-minute mark, TL had just a small lead.

Even with a 2-0 lead after the second game, Team Liquid still dropped a game to LYON, who for a moment looked like they could take the title. In a deciding game four, Liquid crushed any hopes, winning across all lanes and ending the game, the series, and the season, in a brief 27-minute stomp.

With the victory, Team Liquid celebrate another year on top of the LCS as the best in the region, and head to Worlds as the number one seed and lead representative. LYON and Cloud9 will of course join them, with C9 having to battle through the Play-In stage to join them.

Team Liquid, and of course, the rest of the regional competitors will compete in Worlds 2026, from November Nov. 15.
