South Korea wins League of Legends event at the 2026 Asian Games

South Korea has emerged victorious after a 3-0 sweep in the finals of the 2026 Asian Games League of Legends tournament, defeating Chinese Taipei in a decisive sweep. The team, whose roster is made up of players from the LCK, Korea’s premier LoL league, went unchallenged through the majority of the event, not losing a single game.
The victory concludes what could be the final edition of esports at the Asian Games as the future of the initiative has been cooled into question.
South Korea sweeps Chinese Taipei in finals of 2026 Asian Games
In the three-game demolition, South Korea didn’t even feel the need to use super sub Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok. Instead, Hanwha Life Esports’ Kim "Zeka" Geon-woo took the helm for Korea, going flawless in games one and three, and still dominating in a game two that was seemingly deliberately messy.
Indeed, in that second game, rather than a true chance for their opponents, it looked more like the Korean side was having some fun with the proceedings. Their normally flawless play seemed littered with mistakes, perhaps taking time to enjoy the event.
But things were back to the normal methodical, dominant style that the SK team has shown across the competition for game three, wrapping up the event with the 3-0 sweep.
While the Asian Games had in previous editions been a good warm-up for Korean pros ahead of international competition, the absence of chief regional rival, China, from the event meant there was little quality in the competition. The decisive victory will perhaps do little to prepare the Korean giants for their opponents at Worlds 2026 later this month.
If this is indeed the final edition of esports at the Asian Games, the competition went out with a whimper, rather than a grand spectacle.
