A report published by The Esports Advocate on April 2 stated that sources close to the company confirmed that the tournament organizer and operator of esports platform Leagues.gg would close later this month.
The closure comes just weeks after the organization informed Riot Games that it would be unable to run the NLC, leaving the LoL developer scrambling to find a replacement, and eventually delaying the start of the season.

Former NLC operator Leagues APS to shutter while season start delayed
In addition to sources speaking to The Esports Advocate, a recent LinkedIn posts from Leagues ApS employees suggested a closure was imminent. Ramish Hussain, head of live production at Leagues Media, a subsidiary component of Leagues ApS, posted that his time with the company had come to an end earlier this week.
Meanwhile, Riot Games is yet to find a replacement for the tournament organizer.
The NLC is the official League of Legends European Regional League (ERL) for Northern Europe, representing teams from the United Kingdom, Ireland and several Nordic countries including Denmark, Sweden, Norway and Finland.
The league had acted as a pathway for rising teams and players to qualify for higher-level events such as the EMEA Masters and, in theory, the League of Legends EMEA Championship (LEC). The NLC also enjoyed significant momentum in 2025, but also reportedly stated the issues for League ApS which allegedly invested significantly in the growth of the league.
However, much of that growth was fueled by the arrival of high-profile, influencer-backed organisations such as Los Ratones, Rich Gang, and The Ruddy Sack. With the league’s turmoil and delay, and the disbandment of several of these teams, the future of the NLC seems unfortunately in flux.
