Riot unveils ‘Pandemonium’ with major Arena overhaul, role updates and Ranked WASD

Riot Games has outlined a sweeping slate of League of Legends changes arriving with Season 2 of 2026, dubbed Pandemonium, with the update centered on Vayne, major Arena changes, and long-requested quality-of-life upgrades.

Set on the outskirts of Demacia, the new six-patch season will follow Vayne as she hunts demons while uncovering more of her past, with motion comics scheduled to release later in the act.

Riot said the shorter season is designed to make room for a longer Season 3 later this year, while Battle Pass progression is being rebalanced so completion time remains in line with the reduced patch count.

Gameplay-wise, Riot is adjusting top-lane and mid-lane role quests to better support roaming, proxying and a wider variety of champion classes. The developer is also reviving fan-favorite runes Deathfire Touch and Stormraider’s Surge, expanding support for off-meta builds such as AP Ezreal and attack-speed Xin Zhao, and introducing item changes that include new starting items, omnivamp boots, and the removal of Trailblazer and Opportunity.

However, the headline gameplay feature is a major overhaul for Arena. Traditional matches are being replaced by rotating Events, including 3x6, Bravery and Swift Arena, alongside a new Petricite Grove map, augment leveling, more than 30 new augments and over 20 updated Guests of Honor.

Riot also confirmed that WASD controls will enter Ranked in Patch 26.9 after internal testing showed near-parity with point-and-click movement. Champion-specific keybinds will launch in the same patch.

Later in the season, Riot plans to introduce early surrender votes, Discord party integration in select regions, the return of Your Shop on May 5, and the Blue Essence Emporium on May 13.

Overall, this is a pretty significant update just around the corner, and while it's not a huge, Rift-shattering update we sometimes expect in mid-season patches, it will definitely shake up LoL for a while.
