NA’s last hope: Gen.G vs. LYON preview

Gen.G clashes with LYON as NA makes its last stand against the Korean powerhouse!

The League of Legends Worlds 2026 Knockout stage powers ahead through yesterday’s elimination of Top Esports, with the LCK’s Gen.G and LCS’ LYON clashing today in a cross-regional match.

LYON are NA’s last hope, but may have hit a brick wall against Gen.G, Korea’s leaping tigers who are hungry to prove the LCK’s championship is still a direct line to greatness on the international stage.

Gen.G vs. LYON preview

Gen.G have had one of the most successful years of any LoL team, kicking off the year with an LCK Cup victory, and a near flawless LCK regular season.

But on the international stage, the team has been shaky. Falling G2 Esports at First Stand, missing out entirely at MSI, and struggling at EWC, Gen.G, and their remarkable midlaner Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon, seemed to have a crucial achilles heel.

That is until the Worlds 2026 swiss stage, when the team went a perfect 3-0, and dropped just one game (coincidentally against LYON).

On the Rift, Gen.G just doesn’t lose lanes. And in a game where that’s basically the win condition for the first 15 minutes, that means Gen.G just can’t be stopped. Pure mechanical skill, practiced and executed.

Only a bolt of lightning, a direct injection of chaos and madness, could disrupt Gen.G. And that’s where LYON come in. A team where Kacper "Inspired" Słoma is begging his midlaner, the chaotic Kang "Saint" Seong-in to “stop inting.” Where Saint proceeds to give Inspired the Bird after the game, and Inspired returns the favor.

These guys have one chance against Gen.G and it’s to disrupt their rhythm. Easier said than done. Our pick is Gen.G all the way.
