Gen.G wins a sixth LCK title, defeating HLE in playoff finals

Gen.G Esports has defeated Hanwha Life Esports (HLE) in the grand finals of the LoL Champions Korea (LCK) 2026 playoffs, winning a sixth LCK title in four years.

The Korean organization beat Mid Season Invitational champions HLE 3-1 in the finals, turning a one game loss into three-straight victories on the morning of Sunday, Sep. 13.

The team of Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon, Kim "Canyon" Geon-bu, Park "Ruler" Jae-hyuk and company crushed Choi "Zeus" Woo-je and Lee "Gumayusi" Min-hyung’s HLE lineup in a decisive matchup.

While game one went in HLE’s favor, from game two onwards, there was really little HLE could do against what seem like the favorites heading into Worlds 2026.

HLE were no slouches in 2026. The MSI champions have been on top form throughout both LCK and international competition, but hit a brick wall against Gen.G. On Saturday, Sep. 12, HLE had defeated T1, the team of Lee "Faker" Sang-hyeok, in the lower bracket finals. But even that strong showing couldn’t prepare them for Gen.G.

With the season coming to a close Gen.G’s Chovy was named regular season MVP, while Ruler was named Finals MVP for his incredible performance during the team’s decisive final three games.

With the win, Gen.G are now perhaps the clear best team in the LCK, and have been for the past four years. In that time span, they’ve won six LCK Titles, two MSI titles, The Esports World Cup 2025, and the LCK Cup 2026 earlier this year.

Historically, though the team has struggled at Worlds, an event they have never won, and one that T1 have won three times in that same four-year span. Worlds remains an elusive prize, and the team will have to maintain a level of play at the international level that few teams ever reach.

Gen.G will head to worlds as LCK's first seed, alongside Hanwha Life Esports, T1, and Dplus.
