Dplus and Gen.G become first teams to lock in a playoff spot at Worlds 2026

Korean LCK representatives Dplus and Gen.G have become the first teams guaranteed to head to the Worlds 2026 playoffs as Dplus defeated Movistar KOI and Gen.G toppled LYON to move to a 3-0 score.

The LCK fourth-seed and Esports World Cup 2026 League of Legends event winner, Dplus soundly defeated their European opponents in their first best-of-three matchup at the event, ending the Swiss Stage with a 4-0 match score record.

In the later match, however, Gen.G barely managed to put away a challenging LYON team, which took the first game before being toppled in three full games. Gen.G ended the Swiss Stage with a 4-1 score.

Dplus look dominant and Gen.G sneak by as Worlds 2026 continues

Dplus returns to international providence after a troubling few months at the close of the LCK season. The team who had just a few months earlier looked like on of the best in the world floundered in regional competition. However, the squad looked well on form as they crushed the hopes of MKOI in a perhaps unsurprising stomp.

Gen.G on the other hand looked troubled, as Jeong "Chovy" Ji-hoon and co. dropped the first game to LYON after losing control of the laning phase and struggling with teamfights in the mid game.

Ultimately Gen.G would pick up the win in the second game, but only the stellar play of Chovy would manage to keep the team in the running, instead of being dropped by LYON, who are looking like perhaps the best team from North America we’ve seen in months.

With two teams now locked in the playoffs, there’s still plenty of Swiss Stage to go. Tomorrow CFO will face T1 in what could prove to be a more challenging matchup than expected for the Faker-led squad. Meanwhile, tournament favorites Bilibili Gaming will clash with the LEC’s Karmine Corp. These best-of-ones are must-wins for every team.

Later in the day, LOS will take on Team Secret Whales and Team Liquid will clash with Anyone’s Legend in the bo3 Round 3 matchups. Elimination from contention is on the line.
