LEC Week 4 wrapped up this past Monday with two 2-0 wins for G2 Esports and Karmine Corp, but the victories were almost certainly overshadowed by the dramatic reactions to the recent costreaming debates that have swept through competitive League of Legends.

Hot on the heels of FlyQuest’s controversial video this past weekend, Monday saw Marc Robert "Caedrel" Lamont end his stream early seemingly out of disillusion with both the paused gameplay and fans reaction to costreaming. Caedrel was arguably cast as the face of costreaming by FQ in their video, and with backlash hitting him and longtime League of Legends on-screen talent Eefje “Sjokz” Depoortere.

For costreaming’s detractors, Caedrel’s abrupt stream ending during a period of downtime in the league proves their point. Faced with a not immediately engaging moment from the broadcast, the benefit to costreamers is negligible. Meanwhile, Caedrel’s supporters point out just how

Overall, the past few days have shown just how contentious the costreaming debate has gotten. Battlelines are being drawn, at least between fans of either costreamers and their detractors. It feels as if in the near future, Riot Games may be forced to adjust their costreaming practices in line with other companies.
