LGD Gaming part ways with South American roster

LGD Gaming's short-lived South American project has come to an end, with the contracts of the team's players and staff expiring on August 24.

With no extensions agreed, this brings their three-month stint under the Chinese organization to a close.

LGD returned to Dota 2 in May after nearly two years away from the scene, signing the former HEROIC lineup of Yuma "Yuma" Langlet, Santiago "TaiLung" Agüero, Adrián "Wisper" Dobles, Thiago "Thiolicor" Cordeiro, Matheus "KJ" Santos and coach Igor "kaffs" Estevão. The move came shortly after HEROIC exited Dota 2 and left its roster without an organization.

The new LGD quickly secured its biggest objective, earning the South American spot at The International 2026 through the regional qualifier. The team also reached the grand final of BLAST Slam VII during its brief spell under the LGD banner.

However, the roster was dealt a major blow just days before TI when TaiLung was removed from the active lineup following a competitive integrity investigation. LGD subsequently brought two-time TI winner Topias "Topson" Taavitsainen out of retirement to compete as a stand-in for the tournament.

Despite the last-minute change, LGD came within one series of reaching the playoffs in Shanghai. After taking the opening game against Team Yandex in the final Elimination Round series, they ultimately fell 1-2, ending both their TI run and what would prove to be the roster's final tournament under the organization.

With the contracts now expired, the South American players and staff are free to explore their options ahead of the next competitive season. There is no official word from LGD if they will form a new and/or local roster for the upcoming season.
