First teams lock in playoff spots at PGL Wallachia Season 7
PGL Wallachia Season 7 Group Stage is nearing its conclusion, and the playoff picture is beginning to take shape.
Using a modified Swiss-system format with all 16 teams, reaching three series wins guarantees a place in the playoffs. While there is still more action scheduled for today and several deciding series tomorrow, five teams have already secured those crucial wins, locking in their playoff spots early.
Who made the cut
Team Liquid and Team Spirit reached the milestone in dominant fashion, winning all three of their series played.
Team Liquid have finally begun to turn potential into results. Their BLAST Slam championship suggested the pieces were starting to click, and their performance in Wallachia has continued that trend. The team looks more settled and confident, showing the kind of cohesion expected from a roster long considered one of the strongest on paper. It may not be flawless yet, but Liquid are increasingly looking like a team capable of consistent championship runs.
Team Spirit, meanwhile, arrived at the event with some recent changes of their own. The organization recently announced Milan "MiLAN" Kozomara as the coach of the roster on a trial basis following the move of long-time coach Airat "Silent" Gaziev to inactive status. Wallachia also marks the return of Denis "Larl" Sigitov, who is competing with the team again after stepping away for roughly six weeks due to personal reasons. Larl missed several recent events, including FISSURE Universe Episode 8, BLAST Slam VI, and DreamLeague Season 28, making his return an important boost for the squad.
Another early qualifier is Team Yandex. Despite competing with DM standing in for Noticed, the roster has shown little sign of slowing down. Yandex secured impressive victories over both Falcons and PARIVISION, demonstrating that even with a stand-in they remain a formidable opponent in the field.
Another team already living up to expectations is Aurora. The team continues to show the same growth that has defined their recent success. Coming into Wallachia, the squad was widely considered one of the top contenders in the field thanks to their steady rise over the past season. That momentum has carried straight into the group stage, where Aurora secured their playoff spot with a composed 3–1 run, clinching it earlier after they defeated Xtreme Gaming.
The final team to secure a playoff berth is HEROIC, who have quietly put together one of the more surprising runs of the group stage. Adrian "Wisper" Cespedes Dobles delivered a standout performance with a Rampage on Pudge in their opening match against Natus Vincere, with Santiago "TaiLung" Agüero Gustavo's flawless game on Bristleback. HEROIC’s form has continued throughout the week, with the squad also taking series wins over Team Yandex and Aurora, proving they are more than capable of challenging the tournament favorites.
What comes next
With five teams already through, three playoff spots remain. The final day of the group stage will see the six teams currently tied at 2–2 battle for survival, with each series deciding who advances and whose Wallachia run comes to an end.
