Magic Johnson adds another championship ring to his legendary collection thanks to Team Liquid’s win at The International 2024.

Earvin “Magic” Johnson, the basketball legend and NBA Hall of Famer, has added another unique piece to his already impressive collection of championship rings. This time, the ring comes not from the basketball court but from the world of esports.

Johnson, an investor in aXiomatic, Team Liquid’s ownership group, was presented with a limited edition championship ring to commemorate Team Liquid’s historic victory at The International 2024 (TI 2024), the premier tournament for Dota 2. The ring symbolises Johnson’s growing influence in the esports industry and his continued success as a sports and entertainment legend.

Team Liquid’s logo is prominently embossed in blue and silver on the ring, surrounded by a border of dazzling diamonds. The inner section of the shield features gold detailing, with the year “2024” and the team name engraved. Additionally, the ring proudly displays Johnson’s iconic “Magic” nickname, a nod to his legendary status in the world of sports.

A second championship ring with Team Liquid

Johnson took to X (formerly Twitter) to express his gratitude, calling the ring “an amazing addition to my collection.” He revealed that this ring brings his total championship ring count to 17, two of which have come from Team Liquid. The first was awarded after Team Liquid’s victory at The International 2017, when the team, led by captain Kuro “KuroKy” Takhasomi, made an incredible lower-bracket run to claim the Aegis of Champions.

Johnson’s connection to Team Liquid dates back to 2016, when he joined aXiomatic as an investor. Since then, he has been a vocal supporter of the organisation, often praising its achievements across various esports titles. In addition to the Dota 2 squad, Johnson has celebrated Team Liquid’s successes in CS:GO, where the team won the Intel Grand Slam, and in League of Legends, where they claimed the LCS championship. His involvement in esports is just one facet of his diverse investment portfolio, which spans traditional sports as well.

At 65, Johnson is a part-owner of several major sports franchises, including the MLB’s Los Angeles Dodgers, the WNBA’s Los Angeles Sparks, the MLS’ Los Angeles FC, and the NFL’s Washington Commanders.

This latest ring is more than just a piece of jewelry; it represents the intersection of traditional sports and esports, two worlds that Johnson has helped bridge through his investments and advocacy.
