TI2026 Day 2: Team Spirit and TEAM VISION surge as elimination looms for OG and HULIGANI

If Day 1 of The International 2026 was about finding your footing, Day 2 was where the paths through the Group Stage really began to split.

Twelve best-of-three series were packed into the day, with four series running simultaneously and well over 20 individual games of Dota unfolding across the streams. Keeping track of every fight, draft and comeback was practically a tournament of its own. But by the end of it, the bigger picture had become much clearer — some teams are now one series away from the playoffs, while others are one loss away from Shanghai being the end of the road.

Team Spirit look every bit like Team Spirit at TI

Spirit entered the day at 1-0 and wasted little time moving up the standings, sweeping Aurora Gaming 2-0.

The second game was particularly deceptive. For much of it, there was little separating the two teams. Then came one mistake from Aurora and, almost before there was time to process it, the entire game had unravelled. Spirit seized the opening, Aurora collapsed, and what had been an even game turned into complete domination across the final minutes.

That moved Spirit into the 2-0 round, where Team Liquid were waiting after their 2-1 victory over Team Yandex.

What followed was a strangely lopsided three-game series considering the calibre of the two teams involved.

Spirit absolutely dismantled Liquid in Game 1, with Yatoro finishing with 31 kills, tying SumaiL's TI8 record for the most kills by a player in a single TI game.

Liquid were facing an almost insurmountable deficit but stubbornly kept the game alive for several extra minutes before Spirit finally closed it out.

Then Liquid flipped the script. Game 2 became the miCKe show as Liquid handed Spirit a beatdown of their own and forced the deciding game.

But Spirit had the final word. Their last-pick Death Prophet proved particularly effective in another relatively one-sided game, putting Spirit at 3-0 and one series away from securing their place in the playoffs.

If anything, the series demonstrated just how frightening both teams can be when given control of a game. There was very little middle ground. One side took over, and the other was left trying to survive the avalanche.

TEAM VISION prove they deserved an invite

TEAM VISION reminded everyone (Valve–we all knew) why they had deserved a direct invite to TI. They joined Spirit at the top after taking down BoomBoys 2-0, although the scoreline does not tell the whole story. Game 2 was anything but straightforward. BoomBoys appeared to have both a strong draft and a good grip on the game, but Satanic once again proved extraordinarily difficult to contain. VISION were forced to work for it, eventually pulling off the hard-fought victory and keeping their dominating Group Stage run alive.

That leaves VISION and Spirit as the two teams in the 3-0 bracket, with the first playoff spots now within touching distance.

China finally gets on the board

Day 1 had been miserable for the home region, with Team Resilience, Xtreme Gaming, and Vici Gaming collectively failing to win a series. Their only series win was for LGD Gaming, who is a South American squad sponsored by a Chinese organization... so we're not entirely sure how that would count!

Day 2 finally brought some relief.

China's difficult start continued in the opening matches withXtreme falling 0-2 to GamerLegion and secured a much-needed 2-0 victory. XG even turned to an Io carry for Ame, but the experiment did little to change their fortunes as GamerLegion swept the series and sent last year's TI runners-up into the dangerous 0-2 bracket.

Vici Gaming had better luck against HULIGANI, although they had to work for it. After finding the better early game and some clutch moments to close out Game 2, there were signs of improvement from VG in the decider. It was still harder than it perhaps needed to be, but Vici eventually secured the 2-1 victory and, with it, China's first series win of TI 2026.

After beating HULIGANI, VG found themselves opposite GamerLegion in the 1-1 round. GamerLegion took control of Game 1 from the lanes and never really allowed Vici into the game, but Game 2 became one of the day's marathon battles. At 63 minutes, Vici somehow managed to pull out a victory that looked as though it should have belonged to GamerLegion. GL had opportunities to close the game but showed some of the inexperience that comes with playing on this stage, becoming a little too hasty when patience might have sealed the series.

Once Vici had escaped with that game, the third belonged to them.

LGD, however, remain in trouble after falling 0-2 to Nigma Galaxy. The first was a beautiful 50-minute showing from Nigma, with Lorenof putting together an excellent performance. LGD then reached into the TI draft bag for Game 2 and pulled out a mid Riki for Topson, the hero's first appearance of the event —consider pubs warned.

Unfortunately for LGD, it did not translate into a win. They held the advantage through the earlier portions of the game before Nigma pulled everything together around their strengths and took control, completing the sweep.

Nowhere to hide at the bottom

The most important results of Day 2 may ultimately have come from the 0-2 matches.

Team Resilience kept their TI alive with a 2-0 victory over OG. Lifestealer should have been pivotal for OG in the opening game, but Invoker's ability to constantly pressure the map through split-pushing, combined with Resilience's multiple initiation options, eventually paid off for them.

The second game was far more convincing, with Resilience taking command and never giving OG much opportunity to recover.

Xtreme Gaming also survived, completing a 2-0 victory over HULIGANI. Game 2 featured another successful Spirit Breaker appearance, with the hero maintaining a 100% win rate, while xxS produced a flawless performance on Timbersaw.

This means OG and HULIGANI have run out of second chances.

The two teams will meet first thing tomorrow in the 0-3 round, and only one of them will leave the series with their TI campaign still alive. The loser will become the first team eliminated from The International 2026.

Tomorrow, the stakes become very real

Two days of Swiss-system chaos have now brought TI to its first true breaking point.

OG and HULIGANI will open Day 3 fighting simply to remain at the tournament, with the loser becoming the first team sent home.

At the opposite end of the standings, TEAM VISION will face Team Spirit, with the winner becoming the first team to lock in a place in the TI 2026 playoffs.

But the high stakes don't end there.

By the end of Day 3, two more teams will have secured direct passage to the playoffs and two more will have been eliminated from The International. The ten teams left between those two extremes will move into Sunday's Elimination Round, where the field will be cut directly in half where five survive and join the playoffs and five go home.

After two days and a mountain of Dota, TI is about to start taking names.
