The end of the road for Xtreme Gaming

XG had some of the best stats for players reaching the top 4 of TI over its 15 years. But this year would not be theirs. From the start of the Group Stage just a few days ago, the team looked extremely poor, struggling to connect in any real way across the map. What that culminated in was an early exit from the tournament. For a team that finished as runners up at TI 2025, this year would see their journey end in the Group Stages.

Their final day battles began brightly, with a win over LGD Gaming, but that swiftly turned into despair, as Topias "Topson" Taavitsainen reminded them of past defeats at TI.

Leaving XG at a 1-3 scoreline, their struggles continued into what would be their final series at TI 2026, facing off against another Chinese hopeful, Team Resilience. With TR having shown why they were named as such throughout the tournament, taking games off of TEAM VISION and Team Yandex along the way, they continued to prove that they were worthy of their spot at the event.

In two games, TR destroyed XG, showing them what the true power of a strong team is. While XG crumbled, with serious problems showing in their roster, they quickly saw their TI dreams come to an end.

XG will have a bit of time to really think on their defeat and early exit, with lacklustre performances being the name of their game for 2025. TI 2026 was just another nail in the coffin for a team that is constantly considered one of the absolute favourites. For now, the uncrowned kings will remain without glory.

At the same time, TR will now move onto the Elimination Round, where they will be looking to pick up the CN Dota 2 flag and carry it forward into the playoffs, as we head into more intense Dota 2 action in the coming week.
