Team Liquid and Team Falcons go the full distance in the first series of the BLAST Slam VI playoffs

After a short break, BLAST Slam VI was back today with best-of-five series right off the bat, and eliminations from the first day of playoffs.

Six teams remained at BLAST Slam VI, but after the first day of playoffs, only four would be left. While Natus Vincere and OG were safe in the semi-finals already, the remaining teams would need to survive the first day of playoffs and best-of-five series if they wanted to have a chance to become the champions. Team Liquid and Team Falcons were the first two to bring us what could be an intense playoff from the event, with tournament lives on the line right away.

Team Liquid conquer the TI champions

During the best-of-one Group Stage at BLAST Slam VI, Falcons and Liquid gave us an hour-long back-and-forth brawl. Liquid was victorious in the end, but both teams were forced into the play-ins. Having both survived the play-ins, one would see their tournament end today. Falcons came out strong, dominating the first game of the series, and leaving their opponents to go back to the drawing board.

Liquid did exactly that, and after the loss. Even after losing the first game with a Razor for Marcus “Ace” Hoelgaard, they re-picked the hero twice more. However, the team were on the ball, and miles ahead of Falcons before the TI champions could react. As the next two games went the way of Liquid, Falcons needed to now fight back to keep themselves in the tournament.

As expected, these two teams ended up going the full distance, as Falcons dismantled Liquid with an eventual unkillable DOOM from Ammar “ATF” Al-Assaf. Unfortunately, game five would elude Falcons, as they were bullied out the series and tournament. Liquid gave the TI champions no room to play and eventually closed out a sublime 3-2 series.

With that, Team Liquid move forward to face OG on Saturday, February 14th, but there will be no love lost between the two teams in a Valentines showdown. Falcons exit BLAST Slam VI in fifth/sixth place, as the team now gears up for next week’s DreamLeague Season 28.
