South American teams rise, as China falls at PGL Wallachia Season 8
With the final day of Group Stage action from PGL Wallachia Season 8 also came the final day for three more teams.
PGL Wallachia Season 8’s Group Stage has seen some interesting results over the last few days. With Team Yandex and Tundra Esports being two of the biggest surprise exits early in the Group Stage, teams like Natus Vincere and Vici Gaming followed in their footsteps. Today, would see the remaining eliminations, with a few more surprises thrown in, as South American Dota 2 leaves the rest in their dust.
South America takes two into the playoffs
As the sole contender in the North American category, GamerLegion were holding onto hope to finally make a Playoff stage. Unfortunately, their challenger came in the form of the South American HEROIC squad. As the only team to pick Zeus in this event, HEROIC held onto a 100% winrate on the hero, as they easily marched over GL for a 2-0 victory. This locked them in for the Playoffs at PGL Wallachia Season 8, with their regional rivals hoping to join them next.
South American Rejects were making waves at the event so far, having already taken down Xtreme Gaming and Yandex during the Group Stage. However, their tournament lives hung in the balance, as they looked to reach the Playoffs by taking down MOUZ. Although MOUZ did give them some fierce competition, SAR’s Game 3 draft proved too strong, with Frank Alberto “Frank” Arias Ayala continuing to produce massive Black Hole plays with his Enigma. SAR move forward, now with their best result to date.

In a classic matchup between Wang “Ame” Chunyu and Illya "Yatoro" Mulyarchuk in the carry roles, the first game of the day’s final series was a treat. Neither team backed down, using buybacks, refreshers, and everything in their arsenal against one another – with a Tiny versus Lone Druid. Team Spirit emerged the victors with a backdoor bear play and their enigmatic finish of Game 1 led them to a much faster Game 2. Weathering a tough early game, Spirit managed to find their footing, and completely dismantle XG, taking a strong 2-0 victory.
With that the Playoffs for PGL Wallachia Season 8 are set. The eight teams fighting for the title are:
- Aurora Gaming
- BetBoom Team
- PARIVISION
- Team Liquid
- Team Falcons
- South American Rejects
- HEROIC
- Team Spirit
This means that the Playoffs for PGL Wallachia Season 8 will feature two South American teams, as HEROIC and SAR survive the final day of the Group Stage, while China loses both their hopes after VG and XG bomb out. Playoffs kick off on Thursday, April 23rd, with the champion being crowned on Sunday, April 26th.
