OG survive thriller against Grind Back to qualify for The International 2026

OG's road back to The International is complete after an intense and long four game battle.

Since rebuilding its Dota 2 division around a Southeast Asian roster, OG is looking strong again and is now heading to The International.

The organization secured the region's sole qualification slot after defeating Grind Back 3-1 in the grand final of the Southeast Asian regional qualifier.

Unlike several other regions, Southeast Asia was awarded just one place at TI 2026. With no direct invites coming from the region, the qualifier represented the only path to Shanghai.

OG 3:1 Grind Back

OG entered as one of the favorites and received a direct invitation into the Closed Qualifier's upper bracket quarterfinals. From there, they largely handled business. The team swept through a Filipino stack in their opening series, defeated GLYPH 2-0, and then overcame REKONIX 2-1 to reach the grand final without dropping into the lower bracket.

The path taken by Grind Back was considerably more difficult.

Assembled specifically for the qualifiers, the roster featured several of Southeast Asia's most recognizable names, including 23savage, Oli, and Q. After being knocked into the lower bracket by REKONIX in the quarterfinals, the team was forced to survive four consecutive elimination series. They eventually earned revenge over REKONIX with a 2-0 sweep to secure their place in the final against OG.

The series delivered exactly the kind of drama fans hoped for.

Grind Back struck first, claiming the opening game after more than an hour of play and wresting control of the match in the late stages. OG responded immediately, stabilizing the series with victories in Games 2 and 3. The third map, in particular, was entirely one-sided as OG overwhelmed their opponents from start to finish.

Game 4 proved to be the turning point.

For much of the match, Grind Back appeared poised to force a deciding fifth game. A devastating team wipe around the 56-minute mark for OG pushed Grind Back firmly in control and seemingly within touching distance of extending the series. Yet OG refused to break. The team continued to defend, continued to find opportunities, and eventually seized momentum for themselves. Twelve minutes later, OG's comeback was complete. At 68 minutes, they closed out the game, the series, and with it their place at The International 2026.

OG in SEA

The qualification marks an important milestone for a roster that has spent much of the year searching for consistency. When OG signed Team Aureus and shifted its focus to Southeast Asia late last year, the move generated excitement throughout the region. A top-four finish at BLAST Slam VI suggested the project was moving in the right direction.

Since then, however, results have been mixed. The team experimented with roster changes, including a brief loan spell for TORONTOTOKYO after Nikko was moved to inactive status in April. The move failed to deliver the breakthrough many hoped for, and following a disappointing BLAST Slam VII campaign, OG ended the loan and brought in veteran carry Raven.

Now, none of those struggles matter. After months of roster adjustments, fluctuating results, and growing questions about the direction of the project, OG has secured the one result that mattered most.
