OG and XG survive the day at DreamLeague Season 27

Eliminations took centre stage on Day 3 of the DreamLeague Season 27 playoffs, with three team’s tournament lives being ripped away.

After some epic upper bracket action over the last few days, DreamLeague Season 27 began its lower bracket elimination series. Three teams would find themselves on the outskirts of the event today. With Team Falcons being the shock elimination early in the day, upsets were to be expected, as the tournament went down to a total of five teams hoping to take all the spoils over the weekend.

OG power through

OG’s recent resurgence has been well-documented, but the team were yet to register anything above a top 6 finish. After a rough loss to Tundra Esports in the upper bracket, the team would have to make a valiant lower bracket run to reach the top 4. With an absolutely dominant performance, and some poor drafts from Virtus.pro, OG took an easy 2-0 victory.

While they survive the day, tomorrow they will be back in an elimination battle against PARIVISION. However, having secured a top 6 finish, the team would automatically qualify to ESL One Birmingham and DreamLeague Season 28 in 2026.

XG cause a second upset

We had already seen a completely different XG come out earlier in the day, as they took down Falcons in the opening series. Their high continued into the Tundra series, where the Chinese squad came out fighting. From an interesting Nightstalker pick for Lin “Xxs” Jing and a Tiny for Cheng “NothingToSay” Jin Xiang, XG controlled and claimed Game 1.

Looking to claw back into the series, Tundra had a magnificent start to the second game, finding pickoffs constantly. However, XG met their aggression as the game progressed, with a Tinker to clean up without contest. Surprisingly, Tundra had no response, as XG marched through for a second win of the day, eliminated another tournament favourite at DreamLeague Season 27.

With that, the two tournament favourites are eliminated, leaving an opening for a new team to possibly end 2025 with a huge victory at DreamLeague Season 27. Tomorrow will see XG facing another elimination challenge, when they face either OG or PARIVSION in hopes of reaching the top 3, while the first grand finalist will be decided between Team Spirit and Team Yandex.
