GamerLegion among four teams eliminated at the Esports World Cup 2026

Group A and B at the Esports World Cup 2026 had seen some interesting results over the past few days. With only four teams progressing in the event from each group, and two being eliminated, everyone was giving it their best for one of the most important tournaments on the Dota 2 calendar.
While there weren’t a whole lot of surprises, some teams were definitely underperforming, while others stayed the course to claim their victories. With that said, the biggest elimination from these two groups was GamerLegion, the sole North American challenger.
Group A: GamerLegion’s early exit
Group A at the EWC 2026 was the only one where eliminations were not confirmed after Day 4, with the final day being a decider for who would move forward. Although Xtreme Gaming probably did not deserve to qualify, with some poor performances, they did just about enough to sneak into the Survival Stage. Unfortunately, two of the other teams in the group did not find the same luck.
Poor Rangers were left at 1-7 after Day 4, and only a win on the final day could save them. But, RuneEaters had other plans, securing a 2-0 to lift themselves out of the elimination zone. Shockingly, GL’s defeat at the hands of BetBoom Team would mean that the NA team were joining PR as the two teams eliminated from Group A.
On the other side of things, Team Falcons would move directly into the playoffs, dropping only a single game as they topped the group.
Group B: Nigma Galaxy is back on top
Group B’s eliminations were confirmed after Day 4 of the event, with L1 Team and Level UP being the two teams that would exit. However, they would have one last series, as a formality, against one another. Finally getting their first win, LVLUP were victorious in a 2-0 series, but would only help them in moving up to fifth place, while L1 ended last – and both had their tournament end.
More interestingly, the top of the standings was where the attention was, as multiple teams had the chance to become the top seed. While Aurora Gaming managed to beat Team Liquid in the first game of their series, which resulted in Liquid locking in for third place, a tied series would lose them their chance to become the top seed. Surprisingly, a resurgance from Nigma Galaxy saw them take first place in the group, with a clean sweep over PTime, and a clear path forward from the Playoffs.
Tomorrow will see Group C and D wrap up, before we head into the Survival Stage of the EWC 2026 event, where more eliminations will be seen. With three out of four eliminations already confirmed, it will be interesting which team is the last to be cut from the tournament, as we look towards a little over a week from now when the EWC 2026 Dota 2 champion is crowned.
