Esports World Cup 2026 Survival Guide; Teams, format, prize pool

EWC 2026 is set to kick off July 7th with 24 teams competing for the lion's share of $2,000,000.

Esports World Cup 2026 is set to kick off next week, on the 7th of July, with the round-robin group stage.

The event marks the final championship of the fourth ESL Pro Tour season and serves as the last major international LAN before teams turn their full attention to The International 2026. Originally scheduled to take place in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, the tournament was relocated to Paris, France due to concerns over the "regional situation." It also marks the return of top-tier Dota to the French capital for the first time since the MDL Disneyland Paris Major in 2019, where Team Secret lifted the trophy.

While TI remains the ultimate destination, EWC offers one final opportunity for teams to build momentum, test themselves against the world's best, and make a statement before the season reaches its climax in Shanghai.

The action kicks off Tuesday, July 7th at 11:00 CEST with Group A as Falcons takes on BB Team, Poor Rangers go up against Gamer Legion, and Rune Eaters will face Xtreme Gaming.

EWC 2026 Teams

Invited teams:

12 Dota 2 teams were given a direct invite, but these came through the ESL Pro Tour Points System. With DreamLeague Season 27, 28, and 29, as well as ESL One Birmingham 2026 all contributing points, teams were able to lock in and avoid the regional qualifiers.

  • Team Yandex
  • Team Falcons

EWC 2026 Groups

EWC is divided into four groups with 24 teams chasing the playoffs. Only the top team of each group will secure that precious playoff spot. Second to fourth-placed teams in each group will go to Survival rounds, while the bottom two teams from each group will be eliminated.

EWC 2026 Group A

Group A is the battleground of hopes, where three genuine title contenders are expected to fight for the lone direct playoff berth. Falcons, Xtreme Gaming, and BetBoom Team all have different questions to answer this season, but only one can avoid the dangerous Survival stage.

EWC 2026 Group B

Group B features one of the widest talent gaps at the tournament. For a couple of teams seeded in Group B, the Esports World Cup 2026 represents a huge jump from tier 3 tournaments to a $2,000,000 LAN, while Team Liquid and Aurora Gaming enter as clear favorites. Much of the intrigue surrounds whether Nigma Galaxy's revitalized roster can disrupt the expected order and whether rising teams can prove they belong on one of Dota's biggest stages.

EWC 2026 Group C

PVISION and Team Spirit headline Group C, making the race for first place one of the most anticipated of the tournament. Yet the battle behind them may prove just as compelling, with MOUZ and Vici Gaming looking to secure Survival stage berths while the remaining teams fight simply to stay alive.

EWC 2026 Group D

Group D may be the most unpredictable of the four. Championship contenders 1w and Team Yandex lead the way, but LGD Gaming's resurgence since joining the former HEROIC roster makes them a legitimate threat, creating a three-way fight for the direct playoff spot in what could be the tournament's deepest group.
