Tundra awaken on tiebreakers day: DreamLeague Season 29 playoffs bracket set
Six days, 135 games, and a three-way tiebreaker later DreamLeague Season 29 is ready to move to the playoffs stage with 12 teams fighting for a share of the $1,000,000 prize pool and 28,300 ESL Pro Tour (EPT) points.
It also took six days, 133 games, and a three-way tiebreaker for Tundra Esports to show their true colours. The most successful team of the season started the group stage with back-to-back losses and, by the final day in the group, was at the bottom of the standings with four losses and two wins. In other words, they were one series away from elimination. Tundra avoided just that with a 2-0 over Nigma Galaxy, and more so, they managed to push themselves into a tiebreaker with Xtreme Gaming and the South American representatives Play Time for a spot in the playoff upper bracket.
Wits runs wild
The tiebreaker started with Play Time taking a quick and very dominant victory over Xtreme, courtesy of an insanely farmed carry Necrophos from Máximo "Wits" Orozco Alza. Only 22 minutes into the game, Wits was melting XG down with Radiance, Consecrated Wraps, Heart of Tarrasque and Boots of Travel already in his inventory. By the 24-minute mark, he also had Boots of Travel 2 completed, and there was nothing that XG could do to stop him from literally carrying his team to a quick win.
Meanwhile, Tundra were watching, as they were the second team to enter the tiebreaker brawl. They took notes and made sure Wits wouldn't have the same type of game against them. They banned the Necro in the first phase and made sure they picked strong lanes that would allow them to keep Play Time and Wits under control.
What followed were two exceptional games from Tundra’s Ivan "Pure" Moskalenko. He got to play a nearly spotless Phantom Assassin in the game against the SA team, then switched to Muerta for the game against Xtreme to secure an upper bracket playoff start for Tundra.
Nobody was eliminated at the end of the three-way tiebreaker, where Tundra reigned supreme. Xtreme Gaming and Play Time will be seeded in the lower bracket rounds.
With DreamLeague Season 29 being the last chance for the teams to grab precious EPT points in order to lock in a spot at Esports World Cup 2026, the playoffs will be crucial for Play Time, who could deliver the biggest surprise of the season. DreamLeague Season 29 playoffs begin on the 19th of May with the upper bracket quarterfinals.
