Hot on the heels of ESL One Birmingham 2026, Valve dropped the 7.41b balance patch aimed at nerfing the heroes and items that immediately dominated the new "no facet" meta.
Item changes
One of the biggest changes is brought to Black King Bar (BkB). The Avatar now has a fixed duration, and it no longer benefits from increased debuff amplification or duration-extending effects. This is the second big nerf to core heroes, after the 7.41 big patch has also made the Refresher Orb to no longer refresh item cool downs.
Mage Slayer got its health regen reduced from +6 to +5.5 and magic resistance reduced from 20% to 18%. Health restoration got nerfed on multiple items with this balance update. The most notable nerfs were applied to Sange and Yasha/Kaya and to Abyssal Blade. The item tweaked the most in the 7.41b gameplay update is Consecrated Wraps, which became extremely popular over the past two weeks.
Consecrated Wraps
- All Attributes bonus decreased from +6 to +5
- Hallowed stacks are now item charges instead of a stack counter on the buff
- All charges are consumed when the barrier is created
- Charge Restore Time of Hallowed is not affected by effects that reduce or modify cooldowns
- Hallowed now starts with all 3 charges when Consecrated Wraps is purchased or built
- Gaining max stacks requirement for the speedup buff is removed
- Initial 3 charges don't provide the movement speed buff
- Hallowed charge gain time increased from 3s to 4s
Hero nerfs
Unsurprisingly, several heroes that dominated ESL One Birmingham 2026 were hit by the nerf hammer, but also one hero that had terrorized the pubs over the past two weeks.
Meepo was arguably the biggest winner of the 7.41 rework, boasting a win rate nearing 60% in pubs. Patch 7.41b brought heavy nerfs to the hero’s scaling and survivability. From Strength gain nerfs, to movement speed to talent changes, Meepo was nerfed in more ways than we could have hoped for.
- Megameepo nerf: The cooldown for Megameepo has been significantly increased from 60 seconds to 90 seconds.
- Stat scaling penalty: A new penalty has been added to Divided We Stand, reducing the effectiveness of max health and max mana bonuses from items based on the number of clones active. This prevents Meepo from reaching the untouchable levels of tankiness seen recently in pubs.
The other two dominant forces in the early 7.41 meta in both competitive and public matchmaking were Alchemist and Beastmaster. Both heroes received targeted nerfs to slow down their laning stage and mid-game scaling.
Alchemist: His base agility was cut from 22 to 19, making him more vulnerable to physical harassment. More importantly, his talents were reshuffled: the Acid Spray talent was moved from Level 10 to Level 15, and swapped with Corrosive Weaponry, delaying his farming acceleration.
Beastmaster: His base attack speed was reduced from 100 to 90. Additionally, the debuff duration on Wild Axes was rescaled from a flat 12s to 10/11/12/13s, making early-game stacks harder to maintain.
In the support flanks, Jakiro, Tusk, and Phoenix were all tuned down a notch.

The twin-headed dragon was the ESL One Birmingham’s most successful support and the second most picked hero with a 64.91% win rate across 57 picks. 7.41b cuts a bit of his powers, making his laning presence a bit easier to deal with.
Tusk was one of the key heroes in Tundra’s drafts at ESL One Birmingham 2025. Matthew "Ari" Walker lifted the trophy in front of his home crowd with a 10-1 record on the hero. The latest balance patch is addressing his ability to dominate early skirmishes with nerfs applied to Bitter Chill and Drinking Buddies.
Another Tundra speciality in Birmingham was Phoenix. Matthew "Whitemon" Filemon had a perfect 100 % win rate from 7 games played on the hero. With the new patch, Phoenix has her base attack range decreased and the Aghanim's Shard Sun Ray slow effect removed.
Patch winner: Pudge
Amidst previous nerfs, Pudge received a notable buff to his Flesh Heap this time around, increasing the strength gained per stack, reinforcing his role as an infinite scaling tank.
Overall, the 7.41b balance patch seems a direct response to the meta that emerged immediately after the removal of Facets. By targeting Meepo's survivability and Alchemist's economy, Valve is attempting to slow the game down and give a chance to more traditional carries. With the DreamLeague Season 29 qualifiers on the horizon, these changes will likely force professional teams to rethink their drafts just as they were starting to get comfortable.
