Patch 7.39d drops with the Quatero’s Curios event
Valve has dropped Dota 2 patch 7.39d overnight, nerfing a few heroes and items, while also releasing a brand-new event, Quatero’s Curios.
With The International 2025 merely a month away, Valve has delivered the 7.39d patch to Dota 2. With it comes a host of hero nerfs and buffs, item tweaks and changes, and a curious new event – Quatero’s Curios. While the event is the most interesting aspect of the latest update, lets first dive into some of the more important hero and item changes seen in patch 7.39d.
The nerfed
Nature’s Prophet

Easily one of the most prolific heroes in Dota 2 currently, Nature’s Prophet was hit with a huge nerf. Not only did his Agility gain and Sprout heal get this treatment, but one of his core items was also hit (Maelstrom). With countless nerfs over the 7.39’s lifespan, NP is still one of the most hotly contested heroes in the professional scene. However, here’s hoping that they can finally figure out a way to stop the Sprout train in its tracks.
Axe

Axe’s major hit to mana costs may seem as though it could be a bit of a non-issue, with the hero still able to convert a Ring of Protection into an Urn or Soul Ring in the early game if required. However, a big nerf to Blade Mail should see the hero chopped down to size for the time being.
Shadow Shaman

Shadow Shaman has been the most highly sought-after hero for a few Tier 1 Dota 2 tournaments now. The biggest nerf here comes with the removal of the extra Roshan damage from the Mass Serpent Ward. However, this simply removes some of the hero’s presence but is unlikely to have a massive effect on the high pick rate.
There were many other heroes which were on the end of Valve’s nerf hammer, including Undying, Queen of Pain, Templar Assassin, and Naga Siren. You can find the full patch notes here.
The buffed
A fair few heroes found themselves benefiting from some much-needed buffs from Valves. While these changes could see them rise up in the meta, a few felt a little underwhelming – such as Earth Spirit, who is in desperate need of a reworked innate ability. However, a few other notable heroes to receive buffs include Phantom Assassin, Faceless Void, Skywrath Mage, and Zeus.

Item changes
While we have mentioned a few item tweaks previously, there are a few that are extremely relevant. First and foremost, the changes made to Blade Mail are quite significant, while Maelstrom falls off from being the ultimate counter to Terrorblade or illusion-based heroes. Octarine Core also saw a hit of both 50 mana and health points.

On the Neutral Items board, Sister’s Shroud is the main one to be nerfed, with a 50% decrease for the initial evasion. On top of this, the duration has been decreased to 5 seconds.

Helm of the Undying saw both a buff and a nerf, with the base duration increased to 6 seconds. However, no longer will the Death Delayed hero be able to attack or damage buildings.

Quartero’s Curios
A new event in Dota 2 that came alongside patch 7.39d is the Quartero’s Curios feature. This gives players a chance to snatch up a few completely free cosmetics for themselves. These include visual effects for items such as Town Portal Scrolls, Aghanim’s Scepter, Force Stage, Mekansm, and much more. However, the main aspect of the tiered reward system grants pieces of sets for Witch Doctor, Legion Commander, and Vengeful Spirit.

To obtain these, players simply need to play a game of ranked, unranked, Turbo, or public matchmade Dota 2. Experience towards the rewards is granted based on wins, with less rewarded for losses and Turbo mode games. Certain levels also provide players the Quartero’s Antique – which provide players with a chance at Arcanas.
While the new feature feels a bit like a completely free, slightly watered down Battle Pass, it does feel great to get some rewards prior to The International 2025. According to a date in game, the event will end on November 5th, 2025. Giving us more than a few months to get through the tiers.
As TI 2025 approaches, the new patch should bring some interest back to Dota 2, especially with Quartero’s Curios being an exciting addition. However, it seems that many heroes will still require a fair number of tweaks to be ready for the prestigious event in September.
